For married people, what have you done for your partner that you’d never thought you’d do in your life? What things did you learn just to impress the other? Or even better – to make them feel loved?
We’ve all considered “make-up” as a “feminine” thing and men don’t think they ever really had to learn that. But this husband is breaking gender roles just to make his wife feel how much she truly meant to him.
Des Manahan, 87, has always adored his wife.
He admitted that he tried to impress her by singing Nat King Cole and it eventually paid off when they got married.
The couple has been married for more than 50 years, and as age caught up with them, his wife Mona found that there were things she was starting to have difficulties with.
One day, when they were in a beauty studio, Des was hit with an idea.
Mona, at that time, had deteriorating eyesight in her left eye. Moreover, she’s experiencing tremors in her hands that make it hard for her to do her own make-up.

But Mona wanted to feel beautiful. And so, in preparation for a birthday party, they went to a department store to have her face done.
Rosie O’Driscoll, the make-up artist, narrated what happened.
She said that Des told her about Mona’s challenges. Then, he asked the make-up artists if he can have a go at it. Turns out, he was cut out for the job.

“Des took the brushes from my hand and wanted to have a try,” O’Driscoll told BBC Breakfast. “If you just see the way he holds the brushes, he’s a natural. He’s a natural.”

His make-up skills were first put to use when Mona tried to do her own make-up. Because of her shaky grip, Des had to make little corrections here and there because he wanted for his wife to always look her best.
Des then decided to take up lessons.
O’Driscoll said that Des got one lesson after the other. He learned how to apply blush, lipstick, and even mascara. One of his specialties is doing his wife’s brow.
As they aged, they both agreed to the anthem that “less is more”. This is also why Des tends to go for a simpler and lighter look.
Eventually, their sweet story reached Mario Dedivanovic.
Dedivanovic is a celebrity make-up artist whose clients include Kim Kardashian, Jennifer Lopez, and Christina Aguilera. He invited the couple to one of his master classes in London.
The couple found it surreal because they never knew who Dedivanovic was or the celebrities he worked with. But at that moment, they felt like they were important to him.

As for Des, it wasn’t just about make-up. It’s all about wanting the best for the love of your life, even if it meant doing it yourself. Age may have gotten to them, but through all those years, one thing remained the same – they are still madly in love with each other.
